However, fasting done under chronic stress or sleep deprivation can raise cortisol initially, worsening symptoms.

- Shorter fasts (e.g., 16:8) often outperform prolonged deprivation in stressed or ill clients.

Metabolic rebalancing — through circadian rhythm alignment, carbohydrate moderation, fasting-mimicking diets, and stress management — may support oncologic outcomes alongside standard therapies.
⚕️ Clinical caution: In active cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy), fasting or fasting-mimicking protocols should be individualized and supervised, ensuring nutritional adequacy and medication compatibility.
4️⃣ Four Practical Levers for Healing the Hormone–Gut Connection
☀️ 1. Circadian Reset
- Morning sunlight (within 30 min of waking) to set cortisol rhythm.
- Consistent sleep window: aim for 10 p.m.–6 a.m. if possible.
- Evening calm: reduce blue-light exposure, caffeine after 10 a.m., and vigorous late-night exercise.
🍳 2. Metabolic Meal Timing
- Three structured meals within an 8–10 hour window.
- Include protein (≥ 25 g) at each meal, paired with fibrous vegetables and healthy fats.
- Minimise ultra-processed snacks; instead, allow the body to cycle through insulin-low states.

- Breath-paced relaxation (4-6 breathing, yoga, or slow walks).
- Support parasympathetic tone — digestion thrives in “rest-and-digest.”
- Magnesium, hydration, and adequate sodium/potassium intake maintain adrenal stability.

Consider these metrics when bloating and fatigue persist despite gut-directed therapy:
- Fasting insulin & glucose (calculate HOMA-IR)
- Morning/evening cortisol or salivary 4-point curve
- HbA1c and triglycerides
- CRP (inflammatory status)
They often reveal hidden metabolic friction that gut symptom questionnaires miss.
